Edward Boothroyd
Went to school in East Yorkshire, started learning violin aged 8, taking Grade 8 at 14 and spent 5 years in the East Riding Youth Orchestra, becoming its leader in the final year.
French and Music degree at Birmingham University, playing regularly in quartets, chamber and symphony orchestras, again leading in final year.
Taught English in Lyon, France, for 2 years and played with local School of Music orchestra and the OSIU (joint campus orchestra), leading in the second year. Performed Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5 in local church.
Now regular member of Birmingham University Symphony Orchestra and Birmingham Chamber Orchestra (deputy leader), as well as a piano quintet and string quartet. Play weekly for Grace Church, Cotteridge (Birmingham), and recently performed in a chamber music recital there. In final (third year) of PhD: “French theatre in Paris during the Occupation of France, 1940-44”. Teach French (literature and translation) seminars on campus and hope to take this on full-time.
Interests include badminton, reading and walking.
